How McDonald Surveys Is Providing Expert Surveying To Major WA Rail Companies

Sep 3, 2020

For many businesses and organisations across WA, having safe and reliable rail infrastructure is critical to the success of their operations. This is particularly true for mining, transport or other sectors where the movement of goods, assets, people and materials is central to their operation. Surveying plays a key role in this and McDonald Surveys continues to deliver its sought-after rail surveying services across Western Australia, helping to ensure that all rail services adhere to the highest standards and performance.

Here’s how McDonald Surveys is transforming rail surveying standards across Australia.

Setting the standard for surveying in Western Australia

McDonald Surveys has worked with most major rail owners across Western Australia to streamline, secure and boost their rail processes and performance. We were the key contract surveyors for the Perth Stadium Rail Project with Laing O’Rouke and AECOM (PRISM Alliance) and provided engineering surveying support for the construction of the new passenger station and extended railway line.

As part of this project we introduced pioneering technology such as the GEDO Vorsys twin trolley system and Trimble surveying hardware and software. We also implemented virtual scene technology, which captured dilapidation surveys in 3D spherical images. This provided our client with a full visualisation and understanding of all building conditions both pre and post construction.

We are proud to say that we are now working with all five major rail owners in Western Australia.  These are Rio Tinto, BHP, Royhill and Arc Infrastructure where we support their track works during both maintenance and construction phases. In addition, our recent success in securing the Eliwana rail project with John Holland now gives us exposure to FMG.

Our current and past construction clients are well known throughout WA and Australia and include John Holland, Laing O’Rourke, RMC Rail, Downer, Fluor and CPB. The confidence these clients demonstrate in our capability is something we appreciate and take very seriously.

How we deliver exceptional surveying and innovative technology?

We set ourselves apart by implementing innovative surveying across the board.  Alongside our proprietary dilapidation technology, Inspective, we utilise the Trimble GEDO Vorsys twin trolley system to measure rail reliably and efficiently.

We reinvest in training and knowledge-sharing with our staff on an on-going basis, so that they can confidently resolve any challenges that arise during a rail project and encourage them to think independently while being supported by the broader team.

We collaborate with our clients at all times. Understanding their challenges and working as a cohesive team, we endeavour to deliver results that our clients will be satisfied with and that we are proud to stand over.
