Tiara Coyne

In August 2021, the McDonald Surveys’ team welcomed our first office administration trainee – Tiara Coyne.

Tiara’s traineeship has been brought about through our partnership with NUDGE Foundation – a for-purpose WA charity that focuses on getting young people into jobs and training opportunities in various industries throughout WA.

This partnership is important to McDonald Surveys, as it is an active opportunity to give back to the Western Australian community by supporting our next generation of young people, leaders and workers.

Tiara had recently finished her Year 12 studies and obtained her Western Australian Certificate of Education. A keen basketball player, Tiara has joined McDonald Surveys to find out more about and develop skills in office administration.

Tiara has joined our Dilapidation team as part of her traineeship and two months into the role, Tiara is sharing what she has learnt so far.

McDonald Surveys: Why did you apply for a traineeship role within the Dilapidation team? What interests you about surveying and dilapidation in particular?

Tiara: I am very interested in pursuing a career in an office-based environment. Some of the best parts of my job is speaking with lots of different people and building positive working relationships with the team.

When I saw the traineeship role with McDonald Surveys it appealed to me because I would be able to learn new skills in an organisation that has diverse services, teams and projects.

McDonald Surveys: What have you discovered about Dilapidation and property condition surveys?

Tiara: Working with the Dilapidation team have opened my eyes more to the surveying world and in particular to find out about two key learnings:

  • It’s important to get a property condition survey before construction happens near your home.
  • What the meaning of dilapidation really is as well as what’s involved with dilapidation surveying.

McDonald Surveys: What are your future aspirations and interests?

Tiara: Being part of the Dilapidation team at McDonald Surveys has allowed me to further experience all aspects of office administration – from efficient client communications, data entry, scheduling and being the point of contact to connect our surveyors and clients.

I have enjoyed being exposed to these experiences, which is steering me towards completing a Certificate III in Business and then possibly pursue a Certificate IV after that. With the learnings I am undergoing at McDonald Surveys and these further qualifications, I would like the opportunity to become an Office Manager one day.

Thanks so much Tiara for sharing your first few months with McDonald Surveys.
